WHAT CHALLENGE WILL YOU BE TAKING ON?

In our team you will develop a project to improve and verify a preliminary stratospheric balloon trajectory prediction model developed by GMV. During the internship you will perform the following tasks:

• Bibliographic review of models, techniques and algorithms for balloon trajectory prediction.
• Review of the model implemented in the prototype developed by GMV.
• Proposal of improvements in GMV's preliminary model.
• Search for sources of information for the validation of the prediction model (numerical models, soundings, ...).
• Analysis of the model performance by comparing simulated trajectories with real balloon flight data.
• Estimation of the error of the calculated trajectories by introducing uncertainty in the meteorological fields used (Monte Carlo, ensembles, ...).

WHAT DO WE NEED IN OUR TEAM?

For this position, we are looking for physics graduates with a background and interest in meteorology.

We also value previous experience and knowledge of numerical methods and knowledge of a programming language, at least at a high level for prototyping (e.g. Matlab, Python, ...).

We also value knowledge of:

• C/C++
• Use of NWP models
• Simulation of physical systems.
